The REACH will deliver solutions to two critical needs for the Center’s arts education programming: added space, and the ability to expand offerings. The REACH’s new classrooms and Learning Lab will be outfitted with modern technology, and will have extremely flexible furniture layouts.

When approaching the Kennedy Center from Memorial Bridge or along the Potomac River on the footpath from Georgetown or the National Mall, the view of swiveling cranes and newly pitched walls gives an exciting glimpse of the fast-changing landscape on the most western edge of the District.

The Center has also received all of the necessary regulatory approvals for the pedestrian bridge and ramp that will connect us to the Rock Creek Paved Recreation Trail and, by extension, other presidential memorials along the National Mall.

Crinkle concrete work continues

The construction site is undergoing a drastic transformation. Beyond the installation of more underlying infrastructure and the emergence of internal and external building framework, the uniquely crafted crinkle concrete, a textured and acoustically-sound material designed specifically for the walls of the expansion, is visible from the surrounding area.

Ben Folds: Composing the Expansion

As part of Sound Health in Concert: Music and the Mind,the National Symphony Orchestra took to the stage with composer Ben Folds. His task: write and compose a song in ten minutes and then perform it, unrehearsed, in front of a live audience.
